Let’s be honest—marketing can feel like a full-time job on top of your actual full-time job. That’s exactly why we launched our Summer School series: to help you cut through the noise and get to the good stuff without spending a fortune (or losing your sanity).

The truth is, you don’t always need a big budget to make a big impact. There are loads of free tools out there that can help you elevate your marketing game—whether you're just getting started or looking to sharpen your strategy. And no, we’re not being paid to say this. We’ve used many of these tools ourselves, and we’re sharing them because they work.

This year, we’re diving into tools that support social media, branding, email marketing, websites, and business strategy. Let’s get into it!

1. Canva – Your Design Bestie
If you’ve ever stared at a blank screen wondering how to make your social media post look less “meh” and more “wow,” Canva is your new best friend.

Canva is a free, user-friendly design tool that lets you create stunning visuals—no graphic design degree required. Whether you’re making Instagram posts, LinkedIn banners, TikTok thumbnails, or even PDFs and posters, Canva has thousands of templates to get you started. Just plug in your brand colours, drop in your logo, and you’re good to go.

Feeling creative? You can build your own designs from scratch using their drag-and-drop editor. And if you want to unlock even more features, there’s a paid version—but the free one is more than enough to get started.

2. Mailchimp – Email Marketing Made Easy
Ever received an email that looked slick, knew your name, and seemed to read your mind? That’s probably Mailchimp at work.

Mailchimp helps you create professional, branded emails with ease. It offers ready-made templates, drag-and-drop editing, and even real-time tips to improve your content. You can personalise emails, segment your audience, and schedule campaigns to go out at just the right time.

The free plan lets you manage up to 500 contacts—perfect for small businesses or those just dipping their toes into email marketing. Bonus: it helps you stay GDPR-compliant, which is always a win.

3. Buffer – Social Media, Streamlined
Managing multiple social media accounts can feel like herding cats. That’s where Buffer comes in.

Buffer lets you connect up to three social media channels (for free!) and schedule posts in advance. No more logging into each platform separately or scrambling to post during your lunch break. You can plan your content calendar, track performance, and even use their built-in AI assistant to optimise your posts.

It’s a great way to stay consistent and keep your messaging aligned across platforms—without the chaos.

4. Biteable – Video Creation Without the Headache
Video content is king, and platforms like TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts are proof. But creating videos doesn’t have to be complicated.

Biteable is a free tool that helps you make short, engaging videos using templates and simple editing tools. Whether you’re promoting a product, explaining a service, or just adding a bit of personality to your brand, Biteable makes it easy.

We’ve used it ourselves for promotional content and video intros—and it’s a game-changer.

5. Vimeo – Hosting Your Videos Like a Pro
Once you’ve created your masterpiece, you’ll need somewhere to host it. While YouTube is the go-to for many, Vimeo offers a cleaner, more professional experience—especially if you’re not chasing viral fame.

Vimeo lets you organise videos into folders, tag them for easy searching, and share them seamlessly across platforms. It also integrates nicely with other tools on this list, making it a solid choice for businesses that want control and polish.

6. Google Tools – The Unsung Heroes
Google offers a treasure trove of free tools that can supercharge your marketing. Here are a few must-haves:
  • Google Business Profile: Helps people find you on Google Maps and search for you if you have a physical location and crucially, allows customers to leave reviews and improve your credibility.
  • Google Analytics: Tracks who’s visiting your website, what they’re doing, where they’re coming from and how long they linger on your site. Knowledge is key and this is a tool that unlocks all you might need to know about your users and your site.
  • Google Search Console: Shows how your site performs in search results, flags broken links, and helps you optimise usability on different devices, such as desktop PCs or mobile devices.
Even a basic understanding of these tools can give you powerful insights to improve your digital presence.

7. AI Tools – Your New Marketing Sidekick
Let’s talk about the elephant in the (virtual) room: AI. It’s not just a buzzword—it’s a brilliant assistant that can help you brainstorm, write, plan, and polish your marketing efforts.

Whether you’re using Copilot (my personal favourite, of course!) or other AI tools, here’s what they can do:
  • Proofread and refine your content
  • Generate ideas for blogs, emails, or social posts
  • Help you build marketing strategies
  • Answer questions and troubleshoot problems
The best part? You don’t need to be tech-savvy. Just type in your question or task, and let the AI do the heavy lifting. Just remember: don’t upload personal or sensitive data. Use AI as a creative partner, not a data vault.

8. WeTransfer – Send Big Files, Hassle-Free
Ever tried emailing a video or a high-res design file, only to get hit with the dreaded “file too large” message? Enter WeTransfer.

WeTransfer is a free tool that lets you send files up to 2GB without needing to sign up. Just upload your file, enter the recipient’s email, and off it goes. It’s perfect for sharing marketing assets like videos, presentations, or design files with clients or collaborators—no USB sticks or cloud drives required.

It’s simple, fast, and keeps your workflow moving.

9. Readability Checkers – Make Your Message Clear
Did you know the average UK reading age is around 9 years old? That means simple, clear language wins every time. Free readability tools help you test your content to make sure it’s easy to understand—whether it’s a blog post, email, or social media caption.

These tools highlight complex sentences, jargon, and passive voice, helping you write in a way that connects with your audience.

Final Thoughts
You don’t need a massive budget or a marketing degree to make a splash. These free tools can help you build a brand, connect with your audience, and grow your business—without burning out or breaking the bank.

Pick the ones that fit your goals and workflow, and start experimenting. Marketing should feel exciting, not exhausting. And if you ever get stuck or want to chat ideas, the Paradigm marketing team is always here to help.

Let’s make this summer your most strategic one yet!
